If You're Into Art and in L.A....
One of my classmates from my undergraduate days is having an exhibition of her latest work.
The opening of Jennifer D. Anderson's "Belligerency Suite" will be at the JK Gallery in Los Angeles. The time is Saturday, November 1st at 6:00 P.M. through 8:00 P.M.
The exhibition will run until December 20, 2008, so, if you're in Cali over the holidays, stop by and check it out. Jennifer's work has been featured throughout the world, including the Royal Museum of Fine Art, Antwerp, Belgium.

Weekend O'Plenty
This weekend has been targeted for some time as one that would involve me, a companion, a vehicle, a Motel 6 (it doesn't get any nicer in Tuscaloosa), several racks of ribs at Dreamland BBQ, and over 90,000 witnesses to a Big Orange assault.
At least our coach isn't a whore...
However, there are other events that I would have loved to have attended if scheduling had allowed. For instance, The Washington Briefing, hosted by the Family Research Council, is happening in D.C. this weekend. I was asked to blog the event, and I would have gladly done so based on the values speakers alone. With the inclusion of the presidential candidates (Fred Thompson, Giuliani, Ron Paul, Mike Huckabee, Duncan Hunter, Mitt Romney, Sam Brownback, Alan Keyes, John McCain, and Tom Tancredo are all scheduled to appear), it sounds like an incredible weekend.
Also, it pains me that I was not able to attend the Honors reunion at East Tennessee State University. I was even asked to teach a course for a day as part of the festivities. That would have been a hoot, but alas....

ETSU Students Vote Down Football
Good for ETSU students in standing up for themselves. The administration wanted the students to take the brunt of additional funding so that the Bucs could once again have football. Alas, the students voted the resolution down by nearly a 20-point margin.
When I was at ETSU, the football teams there represented nothing good about the university - and that was when we were a winning program. It was thuggery at its worst, and my understanding from some of those still in Johnson City is that campus crime has dipped since the football team was disbanded a few years back. Heck, there was a reason that they called Davis Apartments (which was the athletic dorm back in the day) "The Rock."
My readers know I am a tremendous football fan. Well, I attended two games while at ETSU - TWO. Both were homecoming games, and neither conflicted with a UT home game. Yes, even with very little monetary funds at the time, I would have rather paid for a scalped ticket at Neyland than a free ticket at the Mini-Dome. Now that's a bad state of affairs for a penny pincher like myself.
