Red State Update: Iowa Caucus Report

Well, who could have foreseen those results from Iowa a couple of weeks back? Despite average to below average debate performances and having done nothing of real note except for participate in Iowa evangelical leader Bob Vander Plaats' pay-for-pay scheme that "earned" Santorum the endorsement of several Iowa Christian religious leaders, Rick Santorum rolls out of Iowa with the most personal political relevance since he turned his back on Pennsylvania conservatives and worked for Arlen Specter's re-election.

Meanwhile, Bachmann does something that I can't remember ever happening - going from Ames Straw Poll winner to last amongst the active Iowa campaigns at the caucuses. Sure, her debate performances were uneven, but they weren't significantly worse than Santorum's - surely not worth twenty-points worse.

Perry comes out of Iowa not only disappointed, but significantly confused. Why on earth did he seem to signal his exit from the field Tuesday night, saying that he was returning to Texas instead of continuing on to South Carolina? Maybe it's just this experienced guy's opinion, but if it had been my call, I would have put a contrite but strong Rick Perry out in front of the cameras, shown that my candidate was a fighter and that he was going to carry the fight to South Carolina. Go all-in in the Palmetto State. Fight for Bachmann's supporters while courting Gingrich's unorganized crowd in the hopes that he straps on a figurative suicide bomb in his anger and tries to destroy Romney in a quixotic charge in New Hampshire. Stem Santorum's rise in South Carolina, where Santorum has no organization and has not campaigned with regularity. Come out of South Carolina in the top-two, marginalize Paul, and say that you are the candidate for the Anti-Romney movement. But what do I know...

I'll let Jackie and Dunlap from Red State Update take it from here on the Iowa wrap-up:

Twilight Time!

I don't get the whole "Twilight" thing. Just don't. I thought the first movie was horrible, so much so that I haven't bothered with the second or the third. It seems to me that the whole series can be summed up as an ugly girl that has trouble choosing between necrophilia and bestiality.

So, to me, these songs seem pretty much spot on for the targeted demographic - Twilight fans.

Red State Update: Middle Tennessee Flooded

Only hours after I was complaining that no national figures seemed to care that one of the 25 largest cities in America was underwater, two world-famous celebrity-types adopted the Nashville flood as their cause.

Thanks, Jackie and Dunlap!

42 Months of Red State Update

Yeah, it doesn't make any sense to me either to be celebrating a 3 1/2 year anniversary. Seems to much like pre-engagement rings and other such teenage crap.

However, I'm glad that Jackie and Dunlap dropped this video today. After the Monday I had (horrible day in Blount County Circuit Court where one of my long-time clients talked himself into a jail cell, followed by Angela's frustration at a certain miserable agency with the letters D, C, and S in it's name and attorneys with no morals, capped off by Jack Bauer torturing absolutely no one in "24" last night), I needed a laugh to start my Tuesday.

There's also more references to "f-words" and "n-words" than you can shake a stick at.

Red State Update: Kill Sick People

Dunlap has come up with a health care compromise for the Democrats and Republicans - just kill all of the sick people so that no one has to use the inept government-run health care system.

Just as long as you don't mess with Dunlap's disability filing... (You have no idea how this hits home, as there doesn't seem to be one person who is behind on their child support in this area that isn't somehow "disabled" for the purposes of not being thrown in jail.)

Red State Update: Sarah Palin the Genius

Jackie turns full-out Sarah Palin apologist, and Dunlap plays the roll of the majority of America in trying to comprehend the former VP nominee's resignation as Governor of Alaska.

I have to say that this may be the best Red State Update of 2009 thus far.

Tennessee Firearms Association Meeting Tonight

The Knoxville chapter of the Tennessee Firearms Association will have its monthly meeting tonight. Special guest speaker will be Knoxville Mayor and 2010 gubernatorial candidate Bill Haslam.

Monthly meetings are held at The IHOP restaurant in front of Lowes, on Chapman Highway at the intersection of John Sevier Highway in South Knoxville. A pre-meeting social hour is from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. during which you may wish to eat dinner from the menu. The meeting will begin at 7:00 P.M. and end at 8:00 P.M. Participation by those in attendance is always encouraged.

Gun owners, persons involved in the shooting sports, Second Amendment supporters and interested public are urged to attend; YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE A MEMBER TO ATTEND.

No word on whether Jackie and Dunlap will be making the trip from Murfreesboro to pepper Haslam with firearms questions. From the sounds of this ADULT RATED video (consider yourself warned...), they certainly have a new interest in owning firearms in Tennessee.
