Ron Paul on Government as a Security System
Jay Bush, who is as sure a conservative as they come, wrote yesterday in the fascinating (and well-behaved) comments thread from this post over at Volunteer Voters that Ron Paul was "a total whackjob."
Perhaps I am starting to lose my mind, because I've found what Dr. Paul has to say over the past few months quite on point.
Here is Dr. Paul's latest piece, a reaction to the Virginia Tech killings, from LewRockwell.com. You be the judge.

Rob - Ron Paul has ties to various conspiracy theory groups, including 9/11 Truth, a group that believes the attack on the WTC was an "inside job."
Paul has said the Bush administration is planning to release the bird flu in an attempt to declare martial law and confiscate everyone's guns. He's said he believes there are secret societies within business and academia that want to create a world government. He's claimed the CIA controls the international drug trade. He claims the EPA is testing pesticides on oprhans and disabled children. (you can easily find all of these examples by googling)
I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm all for a healthy mistrust of the government, but Ron Paul associates himself with the fringe elements of our society and in many cases shares their views. He's not just outside the mainstream, he's nutty, and I don't use that term lightly.

Ron Paul is the clearly best choice for those that value freedom of all the announced candidates for President. Ron Paul's positions are well thought out and intellectually & philosophically consistent over the course of many years (decades). His views seem extreme only to those that have allowed their political world view to be framed by the Left vs. Right dynamic, and have either forgotten or never knew the founding principles of our nation.
really? And where are your sources for this? Where did he make public statements saying he believed in any theories? I believe the only thing he has ever said is that if there is a public call for a better investigation he will support it. This article is nothing but a lies and propaganda. Grasping at straws you guys..
Ron Paul has not "associated" himself with 9/11 Truth. He was waylaid by them at a fundraiser, politely listened to their point of view, agreed that a new investigation was needed, added that he didn't think the government should do the investigation and then walked away. That was the entire extent of his "association" with this group.
I had a chance to have a long chat with Dr. Paul during his 1988 LP campaign. AT THAT TIME he told me of a law that had been written to virtually outlaw most of the rights in the Bill of Rights. He said that the folks in Washington were only waiting for an excuse to implement it. From his description at the time, this bill sounded a lot like what has come to be called the USA PATRIOT act. (Remember this was 20 years ago.) 9/11 may not have been planned by the Bush administration, but it sure provided a convenient excuse for trotting out the very bill Ron Paul warned me about those many years ago.
Maybe he's not crazy, just brave enough to speak the truth.

You summed it up right there, so why go and contradict yourself by claiming that those very people who mistrust the government must be "fringe" elements of society. You also assume he's "associated" with these people as if he was in bed with them. Stop trying to create something out of nothing. The real question we have to ask ourselves is, why would you go out of your way to slander Ron Paul?
