BREAKING: South Dakota Governor Signs Abortion Bill Into Law

This action by Governor Mike Rounds surely sets the table for the challenge to Roe.

The big question, given that it will take quite some time for the bill to travel up the judicial ladder, is what the composition of the Supreme Court will be once the challenge reaches the High Court. A replacement of Ginsburg (73 next week), Stevens (85), or Breyer (67) wouldn't hurt South Dakota's chances, for sure.

MORE: Professor Reynolds has more over at Instapundit about new abortion laws. His political take is fairly accurate, but I think it misses the big picture point on which people concerned with winning election (like Karl Rove) will vehemently disagree with me:

Yes, being successful in the eradication of legal abortion may hurt our chances of winning elections down the road, but we must walk the line on this one because it is the right thing to do. This is yet another time where conviction must win out over politics.
